Honestly, writing this feels just a tad silly, sort of like talking to myself, but I do that already, so I suppose a little more won't hurt. :) So, I'm spending the summer in Atlanta working for the Carter Center. I'm officially a Democracy Program Intern, aka News Comber (like a sand comber, but instead of combing beaches, i comb newspapers). I'm having a fab time, although I'm afraid I'm becoming something of a cynic. My tasks include writing daily updates on Palestine and weekly updates on political development in Lebanon and Mauritius.

For those of you that don't know, Mauritius is a very pleasant, teeny, tiny Island off the coast of Africa, kinda near Madagascar. It is a holiday favorite of many and has plans to be the first "cyber-nation/cyber-island". In short, by December they hope to have wireless internet all over the island. Aside from the internet and vacations, Mauritius grows lots of sugar cane, is ethnically diverse (with no indigenous populations) and is about to have elections.

Okay, enough about that... more about me. Yaseen is living with me for the summer, which is actually turning out to be great fun. He's been searching for a job for about a month and has finally met with some success. He now has a part time job at a Pepsi bottling plant.

Oh, I suppose I ought to mention our housing fiasco while I'm thinking about it. On July 6th, Yaseen and I are going to move into our 4th Atlanta residence. First we moved into this rather small, musty "guest house", which we discovered we were allergic to. We survived about 3 days there, before we decided we simply had to move. On the 4th morning living there we made a fairly desperate call to the Voits and they kindly put us up for about a week. After having a great time being temporarily adopted by the Voits we moved into Emory housing. Unfortunately, Emory housing is pricey! So, I found another place, which is nicer than Emory and much cheaper, and within walking distance from the Carter Center. The only problem is that it isn't available until July 6th, so that's when we're moving in there.

Between now and then I'll be back in Dallas for my cousin Reem's wedding (i'm a bridesmaid) and for the 4th of July. Yay for fireworks!!!

Okay, well that's it for now. This already seems too long. I'll try and be more succinct in the future.

Lots of love,
0x0x0x0x0

Rabea
